FUN with Clojure!
Chris Emerson
Functional programming is becoming fashionable once again, with many functional languages becoming more popular recently. In this talk, I would like to give an introduction to one of these languages - Clojure. Clojure is a language that can be learned in a very short space of time due to its incredibly simple syntax - even if you've never programmed before. It has its roots in the earliest program languages from the 1950s, but is an extremely modern, robust and flexible language.
With multi-core processors becoming the norm, there is a big expectation that programs that are able to make use of these resources, but concurrent programming is often extremely tricky with all sorts of traps and bugs being all too common.
Clojure places a strong emphasis on safe concurrent programming, making it very easy to take advantage of modern hardware to achieve better performance.
