No Time to Spare: Spark, Tinder, Breeze

by Rizwana Khan

Rizwana Khan

If you’ve ever found yourself unable to progress in a creative setting, on a project you are invested in, this talk is a tale of a ‘Story of Progression’. It is, also, the uncovering of an analogy that we are all, unconsciously, a part of in the creative process — regardless of how successful or unsuccessful our endeavours.

By the end of this talk, you’ll come to appreciate each step in the way and even more importantly, be armed to support others in their own, individual stories of progression.

About Rizwana

Riz is the co-founder of Project Function, and currently in her penultimate year for a Computer Science undergraduate degree from Nottingham Trent University. As an International student and third-culture adult, she is especially excited for, and eager to aid in, creating opportunities where people whom may be seen as outsiders are given centre stage.

Besides building websites, Riz enjoys learning more about design in general, scribbling poems, and picking perfect GIFs on Twitter. She is also obsessed with Hamilton, The Musical.

The Art of Asking

by Amanda Palmer

'When we really see each other, we want to help each other' - Amanda Palmer

Imagine standing on a box in the middle of a busy city, dressed as a white-faced bride, and silently using your eyes to ask people for money. Or touring Europe in a punk cabaret band, and finding a place to sleep each night by reaching out to strangers on Twitter. For Amanda Palmer, actions like these have gone beyond satisfying her basic needs for food and shelter - they've taught her how to turn strangers into friends, build communities, and discover her own giving impulses. And because she had learned how to ask, she was able to go to the world to ask for the money to make a new album and tour with it, and to raise over a million dollars in a month.
