Everyone is welcome and there are no tickets required. Just turn up - it's free!

A Celebration of Failure - Lightning Talks on the times when things went wrong

Failing isn't failure. Every time something goes wrong, it's an opportunity to learn, grow and do better - tonight we celebrate that by sharing our stories of that which did not work.

Systems going down, emails flying out to the wrong people, whole businesses crashing down and crises narrowly avoided - failure is a part of working life and at this session we’ll be sharing and celebrating the times when things don’t go as planned.

The war stories, the consequences and the lessons learned.

Unburden yourself - at this session we’re inviting you and the rest of the Tech Nottingham audience to stand up, share and celebrate your stories of the times when everything goes wrong.

What is a Lightning Talk?

A lightning talk is a short talk, under five minutes which for this session will be on the subject of failure. At the start of the session the audience has time to come up, write their talk title on a post-it and stick it to the board and those talks make up our evening. If there are too many talks to fit in to the evening, we'll vote.

For the audience it's a rapid-fire session where you'll learn loads and gain unique insight into the thoughts, ideas and passions of your peers.

For speakers it's a unique opportunity to speak your mind, try out a talk idea and boost your confidence in front of a friendly crowd. Since the talks are short, the pressure to prep and polish is low and you can focus on key ideas you want to share.

Slides?

You may prepare a few slides but it's totally optional, they must be in Powerpoint, Google Slides or Keynote format and be shared on the #LightningTalks channel on the Tech Nottingham Slack group before the talks start (we'll be running them all from the same laptop so we don't waste time doing battle with the projector).

It’s only five minutes so don’t do too many slides!

NB - this event will be PHOTOGRAPHED. We'd like some new updated images for the Tech Nottingham website, so we'll be joined by the very awesome Andrew Acford, who does all of our photography. If you would NOT like to be caught on camera, please let Emma or Andrew know when you arrive, or feel free to let Andrew the photographer know directly - he's very lovely!
