Crafting Interactivity with Artcodes

Professor Steve Benford

Professor Steve Benford

Professor Steve Benford (@Profbenford) will explore how to design interactive surface decoration for all manner of objects - from greetings cards, to bowls to guitars - that can be scanned with mobiles and tablets to link to digital services. Artcodes (www.aestheticodes.com) are similar to QR codes, but are beautiful and you can draw them yourself. Steve will explore how Artcodes can be used to create user experiences that blur the line between online and the real world.
We'll also be getting creative and drawing & scanning interactive artefacts of our own.

About Steve

Steve is a Professor of Computer Science and founder of the Mixed Reality Laboratory at the University of Nottingham where he is creating new technologies to interleave the physical and digital in everyday life. This session will build on his experience of working with artists and crafters to create digitally-enhanced artefacts and installations.
